On April 25, 2024, Emory’s administration let loose violence and repression on their campus in response to a peaceful demonstration opposing the genocide in Palestine and the building of Cop City.

Emory PD, Atlanta PD, and the Georgia State Patrol shot chemical agents and rubber bullets into the gathered crowd, slammed students and professors into the ground, tased and choked people, and made unjust arrests at random.

28 people—mostly Emory students and staff—were taken to DeKalb County Jail and charged with misdemeanor crimes, primarily criminal trespass.

As people of conscience, we demand that their charges be dropped!

We call on DeKalb County Solicitor-General Donna Coleman-Stribling to drop all charges relating to the Emory demonstrations.

In addition, we call on the Emory Board of Trustees and the DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston to exercise their significant influence to call for an end to these trumped-up charges.
