'DROP THE ACT'
The Issue
The intention of this petition is to get people to stand with me, to show in numbers, we would like the ‘Mental Health Act (1983)’ repealed.
Why should the Mental Health Act (1983) be repealed? Isn't it helping people get better and stay safe?
We're calling to have the Mental Health Act formally cancelled so it no longer has any legal force for these reasons:
- Intensive Health Care Units, Police Reprimands Units, Quartered [supported] Housing & Hostels, Refuge Accommodation and Additional Learning Needs Respite Retreats are in operation, specialist and cover all bases.
- For compliance with evolution, we need to step away from psychiatry as a standalone unit to give all space to the next stage of development - neurology.
- Clinical testing and social experiments are strictly only consensual under several UK legislations.
- Terminology ‘Mental’ refers predominately to the brain and mental processing - what the Act has legal stance over is much more.
- State and media backed use of the term ‘underlying’, heavily mentioned during the 2020 pandemic, indicate areas of development which are better worked on without psychiatric diagnosis’ and confinements which merely function as a mask.
- Dysfunction in the brainstem, cerebellum, or the structures at the base of the skull alter a person's behaviour, speech, and emotional regulation so greatly that they may appear to have a psychiatric illness, even when the underlying cause is rigorously structural or neurological. Physical issues in this specific region can mimic mental illness in the following ways: Disruptions in the Reticular Activating System (RAS), Cerebellar Cognitive Affective Syndrome (CCAS), Neurological Conditions Affecting the Base of the Skull and Neurotransmitter Imbalances.
- It will make swindles even harder.
