Dredge our Borrowdale river to help reduce the flooding

The Issue

Here in Borrowdale, we are experiencing more and more floods. The riverbeds are full of stones that need to be cleared in order for the river bed to hold more water. More and more stones are being washed down the river every time we have heavy rain, to the point where some areas of the riverbed are now just full and hold very little water, before it over flows into the communities. On Friday, we had roughly 4 hours of rain, which is not unusual being in the wettest place in England, this resulted in the river over flowing each side of a bridge and causing the next field to be swallowed up in the excess water, taking out 58 lambs with it. The rivers cut off roads regularly, which stops emergency services getting to us if we needed help, it also blocks workers and school children getting home and leaves people stranded in cars, leaving it up to the farmers to risk their lives and vehicles in order to help. In the wettest place in England, we should really have a lot more resilience against this issue. We can't let this problem go on anymore, something needs to be done. Bring back dredging. If we don't make a change, it will result in more damage to the environment, more loss of livestock and even loss of life.

Please support us in asking the authorities to start dredging the river again in order to reduce the flooding and prevent more traumatic losses in the future.
