We have a likely date for presenting our petition to Parliament - hoping to confirm tomorrow!
I want to clarify a few things pointed out by Robyn Barnett regarding this petition. I do appreciate her input and advice; we are trying to do things right and the hearts behind this are certainly in the right place.
First, I am a bit dyslexic and, obviously, it's Stage IV, not VI, cancer. That was a typo and I do apologise. I do proofread my posts, but never see transpositions until well after the fact.
The main point I wish to make is that this petition is not inappropriate, unacceptable, or a lost cause. It is worthwhile and your voices will be heard.
With regard to change.org not being an appropriate platform, I respectfully disagree. I think we've done quite well here and this has gained the attention of MPs who are in a position to help us make a difference. Ms. Barnett also said the number of signatures doesn't matter. From a purely technical perspective, she is absolutely correct. However, the number of signatures we have as a result of a grassroots movement (not supported by any corporation or entity) shows the amazing support we have. The MPs we have talked to agree with this - the large number of signatures is helping us be taken seriously and heard.
The format isn't correct. Ms. Barnett is totally correct on that point. However, according to the MP we are working with, this is easily rectified by completing a form and her office is assisting us with getting things into the proper form for presentation.
Had I known then (when I started this petition), what I know now, it would look different. This came absolutely from the heart and I was quite naive. I would have expanded it to cover all treatments for advanced stage breast cancer. I would have put it into the proper format. That said, I think it's still pretty amazing that we have this huge amount of support from all of you. It means the world to us - the Metavivors with advanced stage breast cancer. Thank you for believing that we deserve a chance at longer lives.
