Dear Fine Folks,
During the last few weeks, The Japan Foundation has approached CV and has offered to provide significant funding to the Castle View Japanese program. It seemed as if this was an answer to our hopes and prayers.
However, It appears that Castle View does not intend to pursue this option which could save our Japanese program at CV. Now, more than ever, we need to take action with phone calls and emails. I would suggest that you urge the following.
1. Ask Castle View and the DCSD to work with the Japan Funding and secure the funding for the 2016-2017 school year.
2. Request that Japanese, and all programs at Castle View, be given enrollment requirements (specific numbers of students) that are needed to maintain classes and programs.
3. Ask that Castle View immediately schedule the 34 students who signed up for Level 1 Japanese into a class.
Next week the Japanese Consulate General will meet with Superintendent Fagen, Mr. Corey Wise and Mr. Rex Corr to determine the fate of the Castle View Japanese program. As it stands, the proposed discontinuation of the Castle View Japanese program came as a total surprise to the students, the teacher Aki May and the Castle Rock community! We need to ask CV and the District to be fair and give the program clear criteria that it must meet to continue and give it at least a year to meet this criteria.
Again, I ask all of you to make the extra effort and advocate on behalf of our students, Castle View High School and the community!
