Paid sick leave is necessary to support workers especially during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Ford government continues to make the same mistakes and is failing as a leader to address and implement the necessary solutions that will help Ontarians navigate their way through this pandemic.
Since the start of the pandemic, thousands of people in Ontario have called on the Ford government to implement a bill that will provide all workers 10 paid sick days. Rather than adhere to what is being demanded by many people all over the province. Doug Ford enforced more restrictions towards recreational sites, including playgrounds (which has since then been reversed) but, a decision like this affects the well-being of many, as some are confined to small living spaces and rely on outdoor activities to sustain a positive mindset. This is simply not the way to curve the virus. People are more prone to become infected at the workplace and in order to protect their families and co-workers, staying home from work is the best option to save their health. However, without any enforced regulation for paid sick leave, many workers will continue to be vulnerable to the spread of the virus, leading to higher case counts in the province. Ontarians should not have to choose between paying their bills and protecting their health.
