Ontario is planning to lift the mask mandate by March 21, 2021. This is an inadequate decision. COVID spreads through the droplets emitted when people talk and breathe. A mask blocks these viral droplets. Regarding schools, masks are essential to reduce the spread, as students are in close contact. Schools continue to face ventilation problems and staffing shortages. Many students in elementary schools remain unvaccinated. According to CBC News, "Dr. Peter Jüni, who heads Ontario's COVID-19 science advisory table, said "it's too early to tell" if removing mask mandates is the right move at this time." The health precautions have been lifted quickly and it is too early to tell whether or not the removal of restrictions will cause another spike. The article also mentioned the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO). The ETFO called the decision "premature". The removal of mask mandates is an incompetent decision, as it is not supported by science, nor the teachers' union.

It is important to keep masks in schools. COVID is an airborne disease, which many young school children remain unvaccinated against. The science table and ETFO union are both against the removal of mask ,mandates. Keeping mask mandates help reduce transmission, avoid lockdowns, an keep kids safe in school.
