Following his own disastrous new home experience in Ontario, Earl Shuman worked tirelessly for more than 27 years to try to find justice, and to try to ensure no one else in Ontario had to experience such an unfair and unjust situation that he and his family faced.
In particular, Earl railed against Ontario’s mandatory monopoly new home warranty corporation, now known as Tarion.
Tragically, Earl passed away May 6, 2016.
Sadly, and unacceptably, serious issues with Tarion continue today.
CPBH was honoured to work with the late Dr. Shuman’s family to establish "The Dr. Earl Shuman Memorial Fund for Health Journalism" at the University of Toronto. This fund is overseen by award-winning journalist Robert Cribb. Often newly built home issues result in health-related issues, e.g., mould from Ontario Building Code violations and excessive radon.
Earl believed that investigative journalism related to newly built home issues issues is needed. To help Earl's work continue, please make a donation to this fund established in memory of Earl.
