On December 24, Zeus escaped his backyard while playing with the 2 children. He was picked up by PAWR and taken to the shelter. The parents went to pick up the dog and were told that they were not getting the dog back as he looked like a Pitbull. The owners have proof that he is an American Bulldog Mix and he was liscensed by the city a year ago. They would not have liscensed him a year ago if he was deemed to have been a Pitbull.

This is not the first time a shelter has refused to give a dog back to an owner, when they have proof that the dog is not a Pitbull.

It is time for change. People need to stand up to these agencies and demand change. Just because a dog looks like a bully breed,  doesn't mean they are a bully breed. The people that work at the shelters are not experts in dog DNA,  most are not Veterinarians  or Veterinarian Assistants.  

Please sign this petition and help get Zeus out of the shelter in Chatham and home to his family where he belongs. Strength in numbers. We need to fight to change this law.

I have personally owned a Staffordshire Terrier and a Pitbull. Both were gentle loving dogs. It's not the breed that is bad. It is bad owners. Liscense the owners, don't ban the breed.
