Stop The Destruction of the Iconic Phoenix Public Art Program
Donate to Save Phoenix Chinese Cultural Center

• In March 16, 1988, City of Phoenix Council adopted a Public Art Program. This program requires every developer to spend 1-2% of the development’s cost for a Phoenix Public Art Project on the site for the use and benefit of all Phoenix residents.

• In 1997, the Chinese Cultural Center was built as the Public Art Project for the entire development of 6 Lots at the COFCO Phoenix Center at 668 North 44th Street in accordance with a very specific Zoning Stipulation #11.

• In 2017, despite public protects, the City Zoning Department ignored the public art status of the Chinese Cultural Center. A year ago, it issued and renewed construction fence permits which continues to restrict public access. The City also issued a reroofing permit which threatens to destroy this public art site. This permit is up for renewal soon. Please help to stop it.

• Can the City eliminate an approved Public Art Project just by issuing a construction fence permit and a re-roofing permit without public input?

• Can the public allow the City to ignore its City Public Art Program which was designed to improve the lifestyle of all Phoenix residents? NO, it cannot.

• The Phoenix Chinese Cultural Center is an irreplaceable public art treasure for all Phoenix residents.

• All that stops the City from allowing the destruction of this Public Art are some lawsuits.
We now plead to all who cares about Public Art to join us and donate to our actions to stop the attempt in eliminating the Public Art , and to support the lawsuits that have been filed against City of Phoenix in zoning violation and protect the Religious right. Please pass this message, write to Phoenix City council and City Mayor to let the City know it must preserve its Public Art Program and it must save Chinese Cultural Center.
