Arizona Constitutional Parents' Rights Need To Be Honored

The Issue

The Arizona Parents' Bill of Rights number one states that parents have the right to direct the education of the minor child. Number five states that it is the right of the parent to make healthcare decisions for the minor child.

These right have been infringed on by the mandates that have closed schools, made masks mandatory, and enforced the low tolerance policy- sending children home for small things like a headache or runny nose. This policy requires costly doctor visits to prove the cause of these minor symptoms or ten plus days quarantine in order for the child to receive in person education. This policy also enforces the quarantining of well children that may have been exposed. These policies violate parents' rights to direct the education of and make healthcare decisions for their children.

Government making decisions for all children, rather than honoring the rights of parents to make choices for the individual needs of their children, protects few and causes many to suffer. This suffering has been seen in the greatly increased suicide rates of those under twenty. It has been reported in many special needs students' unmet IEPs. It has been felt as school districts refuse to honor mask exemptions, requiring children who should not wear masks to suffer wearing one or to distance learn.

50,000 students have been taken out of public schools by their parents, because the individual needs of their children cannot be met when their Arizona Constitutional Rights are being denied. This infringement on our rights needs to stop.

Parents, and all those who care about the individual needs of children, join me in letting Governor Ducey know that we want our Arizona Constitutional Rights honored. Schools need to be open without masks, and the low tolerance policy needs to be repealed.
