Don't Land in My Back Yard

Don't Land in My Back Yard
The intent of this petition is to stop the Gwinnett County Commissioners who are on a mission to privatize and expand the usage of Briscoe Field to passenger flights despite the objections of the citizens of Gwinnett County.
Don't Land in My Backyard is an online petition to oppose Briscoe Field privatization /commercialization. Join with the other citizens of Gwinnett County and let the Commissioners know you are concerned about the quality of life for yourself and your families.
The only profitable reason for any company to bid for the privatization of Briscoe Field would be to also eventually schedule passenger aviation at Briscoe Field which will devastate home values in the Lawrenceville area. The expansion will affect as many as 158,139 residents, within five miles of Briscoe. Noise will impact the education of children at area schools, not to mention the impact on the enjoyment of our homes and outdoor activities. Traffic on the already over-capacity roadways (Hwy 316, Hwy 20, & secondary roads) around Briscoe will be gridlocked. Our long-term health will be affected by jet fuel fallout, which is listed by the EPA as a primary source of benzene. The EPA classifies benzene as a Class A carcinogenic, which indicates it is a chemical known to cause cancer in humans.
The RFP does not included upgrades to the infrastructure around the airport improvements and would have to be paid for with Gwinnett County and State of Georgia funds (our tax dollars).
If the county should issue any bonds for airport improvements and the venture is unsuccessful; the county will have to repay the bonds with our tax dollars.
