The intent of this petition is to stop the Gwinnett County Commissioners who are on a mission to privatize and expand the usage of Briscoe Field to passenger flights despite the objections of the citizens of Gwinnett County.

Don't Land in My Backyard is an online petition to oppose Briscoe Field privatization /commercialization. Join with the other citizens of  Gwinnett County and let the Commissioners know you are concerned about the quality of life for yourself and your families.

The only profitable reason for any company to bid for the privatization of Briscoe Field would be to also eventually schedule passenger aviation at Briscoe Field which will devastate home values in the Lawrenceville area. The expansion will affect as many as 158,139 residents, within five miles of Briscoe.   Noise will impact the education of children at area schools, not to mention the impact on the enjoyment of our homes and outdoor activities.  Traffic on the already over-capacity roadways (Hwy 316, Hwy 20, & secondary roads) around Briscoe will be gridlocked. Our long-term health will be affected by jet fuel fallout, which is listed by the EPA as a primary source of benzene.  The EPA classifies benzene as a Class A carcinogenic, which indicates it is a chemical known to cause cancer in humans.

The RFP does not included upgrades to the infrastructure around the airport improvements and would have to be paid for with Gwinnett County and State of Georgia funds (our tax dollars).

If the county should issue any bonds for airport improvements and the venture is unsuccessful; the county will have to repay the bonds with our tax dollars.

Please sign the petition expressing your opposition on this issue to our Board of Commissioners, at www.change.org/petitions/dont-land-in-my-back-yard  this website will deliver your message.

It is very important that your individual efforts do not stop with a signature on this petition.  Everyone needs to contribute by discussing this issue with co-workers, friends, neighbors and family member.

Call your commissioner, schedule a personal appointment, and make them understand you will not vote for any official supporting expansion.

Respond to articles in the AJC, Gwinnett Daily Post, and Patch network (Dacula, L'ville, & other local communities).

Most importantly attend meetings.

This is a significant undertaking and will require the support from as many citizens as possible. Pass the message on to as many people as possible. We need to utilize all vehicles available to make sure the message is received and loud and clear.

Stop the privatization or expansion of Briscoe Field

Greetings,

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Board of Commissioners Gwinnett County.
----------------
Don't Land in MY Back Yard

The primary reason I started this petition is obvious, I do not want Briscoe Field commercialized.

The second and less obvious reason, I did not see a consolidated method to raise objections to the Board of Commissioners. The City of Lawrenceville and Gwinnett County have web sites for comments concerning the airport. There is the Airport CRC, Citizens for a Better Gwinnett, blogs, and Facebook. All these are important and assist in keeping citizens informed and aware of the current status of the airport. My concern is that the message to the Commissioners was getting diluted hence the petition.

The commercialization will affect as many as 158,000 residents, within five miles of Briscoe. We should not only be concerned about being in the flight path but also the additional traffic impact. A significant number of Gwinnett residents have already felt lowered home values due to the economy. Would you buy a home in the flight path of a 737 Honorable Commissioners ? Real Estate motto, location, location, location try and sell your home with large and frequent planes landing 10 miles from your back yard. Gwinnett is a great place to live I would hate to see the area blighted.

Residents living around Briscoe and in the flight path purchased their homes knowing Hartsfield was 50 miles south, and that was just one of the reasons we moved here, accessible but not too close. We didn’t, and still don’t want, to live near an airport operating passenger jets.

It’s one thing to choose to buy a home knowing you’re within 10 miles of a commercial airport or closer, it is entirely different to have this happen and feel your county government is not looking out for the best interest of their constituents.

The quality of my life over the last 18 years has been impacted with the rapid growth of Gwinnett County and I’m not alone based on the signatures on this petition. Growth is good if it does not also severely impact the value of your home as well as the quality of your life in that community.
We elected you to represent us and protect us. Now is the time for you to protect our quality of life by removing any possible consideration of schedule passenger, charter passenger, or cargo service from operating at Briscoe Field.

Join together and let the Gwinnett County Commissioners know they need to care more about the quality of life of their citizen’s than making a buck. Let your voice be heard, tell Gwinnett County Commissioner’s that we do not want Briscoe field privatized or expanded via this petition.
