To President-Elect Donald Trump,

Earlier this year you declared your commitment to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s chosen capital. 

“We will move the American embassy to the eternal capital of the Jewish people, Jerusalem. And we will send a clear signal that there is no daylight between America and our most reliable ally, the State of Israel.”

Two decades ago, Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act requiring the United States to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The bill became law under President Bill Clinton, but every president since then has issued waivers preventing the move from taking place.

June 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.

Early in your presidency will be a fitting, if overdue, time for you, President-Elect Donald Trump, to relocate the American embassy in Israel to the capital of the Jewish state.
