My kids attend public school in Michigan. Lobbyists who seek to privatize public education for personal gain have been influencing policy in our State for years, making it harder for public schools to continue to be the centerpieces of our communities. Now, President Elect Trump appears to be entertaining the idea of appointing one of these lobbyists, Betsy Devos, the US Secretary of Education position. If this happens, our children will undoubtedly be the pawns in a money making scheme in which the spirit of collaboration and public good, which is the basis of public education, will be transformed into competition and personal gain.
