The Issue

America does not elect a King. Our elected officials are our public servants, not our masters, and they answer to the people they serve.

As Citizens of the United States of America, we demand accountability and transparency of those who wish to lead our nation. They serve us, they don't bully us.

In an unprecedented election cycle fueled by anger, little to no accountability was demanded of Donald Trump as a nominee, and an unfit candidate was pushed through to an election victory.

During the election cycle, Donald Trump threatened to imprison his political opposition. He insulted and put women and minorities at risk of violence with his inflammatory and divisive language, insulted a Muslim Gold Star Family, and singled out members of the press he felt treated him unfairly in front of angry crowds -- putting them at risk of assault.

Trump released none of his tax returns (a traditional show of transparency), displayed a lack of self control and decorum necessary for his desired position, and laid out a vague and inconsistent platform.

The American people find this unacceptable and demand more of those who wish to be their leaders.

Because of the lack of accountability demanded of Trump by his party, the other half of America demands his accountability now:

1. We demand that Donald Trump publicly and definitively, in no uncertain terms, denounce Racism, Sexism, Bigotry, Sexual Assault, and Xenophobia, and swear publicly that he will do everything within his power as President, to protect all citizens of the United States of all races, genders, and origins from such hatred for the entire duration of his presidency.

2. We demand a public retraction and apology for past statements by the President Elect that displayed Sexism, Racism, Bigotry, Xenophobia, and for the sexual assault language he used in the recording of his bus conversation with Billy Bush.

3. We demand that Donald Trump publicly promise to not infringe on the rights of the people to free speech, and to never attempt to silence or limit members of the press, traditional media, or social media during his presidency.

4. We demand that Donald Trump publicly declare that he will neither attempt nor threaten to use his presidential power in attempts to imprison his political opponents or those who oppose himself or his policies peacefully and within the law for the duration of his presidency.

5. We demand that Donald Trump release his unaltered, and independently verified tax returns to the American Public.

6. We demand that Donald Trump publicly pledge not to use his presidency to enrich those he places in positions of power, nor to enrich either himself nor his family in their personal business enterprises.

7. We demand that Donald Trump publicly pledge be the leader and champion of the needs of ALL the citizens of the U.S. Not just those who supported him with their vote.

As citizens of the United States, we demand that Donald Trump be accountable and transparent with the citizens he wishes to serve before he sets foot in office.

Donald Trump: If you wish to be our leader, we demand your accountability.

Signed,
We the People
