In light of the recent protests against police brutality associated with the Black Lives Matter movement sweeping the nation, the Justice Department has granted the DEA new temporary powers. The DEA, or Drug Enforcement Administration, is limited by statutes to enforcing crimes involving drugs. However, the Attorney General's office has temporarily granted them authority to intervene in the protests and act as federal law enforcement to search, interrogate, and arrest anyone involved in or spectating the protests.

Not only that, but they have been given the right to perform secret surveillance on protesters to share information on them with other law enforcement officers. This constitutes a flagrant breach of the First Amendment freedoms of speech and peaceable assembly. This information would likely be used to perform unwarranted investigations into protesters and smear the reputation of the movement.

Do not let the government act unilaterally. Protect your privacy and your rights to free speech and the pursuit of justice. Protect the people of color that are under assault by the nation's institutionalized racism. Our elected leaders are our elected followers. If we put pressure on them they will follow. Tell our leaders that WE WILL NOT BE SPIED ON.
