The Lychee and Dog Meat Festival, (or Yulin Dog Meat Festival) is an annual celebration held in Yulin, Guangxi, China, during the summer solstice in which festival goers eat dog meat and lychees.

The festival is celebrated annually in Yulin, Guangxi, China, during the summer solstice in June, by eating dog meat and lychees. Throughout the 10 days of festivities, dogs are paraded in wooden crates and metal cages and are taken to be skinned and cooked for consumption by festival visitors and local residents.

The good news is that the Chinese government is feeling the pressure to stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. During the first few years of the festival, which began in 2009, between 10,000 and 15,000 dogs were killed each year. However, due to worldwide outrage, that number has dropped to about 1,000 in recent years due to restrictions on how many dogs vendors can sell

As the President of the People's Republic of China, you have the power to put an end to this horrific practice, and to prevent these family pets and homeless domestic animals from being savagely butchered in the name of a superstition. Dog and cat meat, like all meat, is high in calories and low in nutrition. Health and fortune do not come from eating meat, nor do they come from the violent killings of animals that we call our own.

As the President of the People's Republic of China, you have the power to unilaterally put an end to this horrific practice. Please use your influence to actively save lives, rather than to passively take them. The cats and dogs whose lives are on the line will thank you, and with luck someday someone will do the same for you.
