STOP migrant family separations and detainment in for-profit prisons!

The Issue

“Profit from Pain is Inhumane, Stop Financing Oppression”

The largest private prison contractors reap sizeable annual profits from detaining immigrants including:

  • Those identified for removal
  • Asylum seekers
  • Others awaiting a hearing in immigration court
  • Those being processed for deportation

CoreCivic, Inc and GEO group Inc, gained an estimate of $4 billion in 2017.

They have spent millions of dollars contributing to political campaigns through donations, lobbying, and building relationships, networks, and associations to sway the political process toward detention-focused policies that favor their interests.

Immigrant women and children from Mexico and the Northern Triangle are fleeing their home countries and seeking asylum in the United States. The reality is that these women and children are at risk, due to the country's lack of protection and support. The facts not disclosed to Americans is that unauthorized immigration into the U.S. has been declining. If this was never a problem, why put those who seek help through inhumane conditions and inadequate care under the government's custody?

Did you know? In December 2018, at least 2 children died in custody, this is 2 too many. The U.S. is in violation of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), by not providing preventative measures, protection, and failing to keep women and children safe from sexual, physical, emotional abuse and more.

Ending DACA means more profit for these corporations:

  • The Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA, has granted protection to over 800,000 young undocumented immigrants.
  • The announcement to terminate the program has left the recipients anxious and uncertain about the future.
  • Current law does not grant any legal status for DACA recipients. When their period of deferred action expires their removal will no longer be deferred.
  • Therefore, without DACA these recipients will no longer be protected from detention and deportation.
  • This is especially troublesome since DACA recipients entrusted the federal government with personal information for themselves and their family members before the Trump administration.

We want POTUS to end what he caused and repair the damage. Immigration is not a national emergency.

Families should be returned to a safe environment with loved ones and friends.

Everyone should have the right to the American dream without suffering in cages, scared for their lives, or without protection of the natural born human rights.

END FOR-PROFIT PRISONS FOR IMMIGRANTS!!
