Don't Waste Our Trains: Use the 48 New MRT Trains Bought for PHP 3.7 Billion in 2015!

The Issue

Alam mo ba that if we can only use the 48 new trains na binili ng gobyerno noong 2015, mag-iincrease sana ang passenger capacity ng MRT by 60%?

That means mas maikli sana ang pila at mas mabilis ang biyahe sa MRT.

Pero 9 years na ang lumipas, those trains are still unused at baka inaalikabok na sa train depot. This is not right.

YOU CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION:

We urge Senator Grace Poe and her Committee on Public Services to:

  • Reinvestigate the delay in utilizing the Dalian trains.
  • Demand the DOTr to release publicly the full audit report of TUV-Rheinland on the new trains and their resolution plan.
  • Remove barriers to deploying these trains for public use.

Nine years na tayong naghihintay. Baka naman.

Huwag na tayo magsisihan. Gawan na lang ng agarang paraan.

Your simple action can help thousands of Filipino commuters spending around 4 hours commuting every single day.

Nine years na ang lumipas at ang mga Dalian trains na binayaran natin with our taxes, unused at non-functional pa rin sa MRT depot.

Kinumpirma ito ng Commission on Audit confirmed at the end of 2022 when they reported that "the Dalian trains procured eight years ago remain idle and not operational..."

Nakakataka ito dahil:

So bakit wala pa rin ang trains and the public is still suffering?

BAKIT ITO MAHALAGA?

Right now, the MRT operates with 24 trains, at umaabot pa rin sa kalsada ang pila ng mga tao sa station kapag rush hour.

To make matters worse, humahaba rin ang pila sa security check dahil kulang tayo sa X-Ray Scanners.

Ganito na ang situation back in my college days from 2012-2016 when I had to commute from GMA Kamuning Station to Shaw Blvd Station.

My first class noon was 7:30 am pero need ko na pumunta sa station before 6 AM to queue for around 45 mins - 1 hour.

To be fair, the situation now is much better than before and there are many times na maluwag at maginhawa ang MRT these days.

Pero the question remains: nasan ang mga bagong tren natin?

Some pictures online show the new trains are gathering dust at the depot. Sayang, 'di ba?

MALAKI ANG NAWAWALA SA ATIN

Experts said that we lose around PHP 3.5 billion daily because of the traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

Let that sink in, friends: "Three point five billion pesos. Every. Day."

Daig pa nyan ang manalo sa jackpot ng lotto araw-araw.

Just imagine the infrastructure or charity projects we can do with that!

Did you know that Metro Manila commuters also lost 257 hours to traffic in 2019? Sayang ang oras ng mga Pinoy!

Hindi lang oras at pera ang nasasayang, but we are losing sleep and rest, peace of mind, productivity, and trust in the government.

Ang isa sa mga solution, 9 years nang naka-park sa depot.

It's now the time to turn the wheels of justice and progress.

Sana ngayon, #CommutersNaman.

I think it is fair to say that the public demands not only an explanation, but a real lasting solution.

TAMA NA ANG SISIHAN.

Let us top blaming any administration and focus our time and energy on solving the problem now.

Beyond politicking, let the commuting public win.

Apart from deploying the unused trains, we are also urging the government to look into the following short and long-term solutions:

  1. Add more X-Ray Security Scanners per station and making it airport-ready in anticipation of the Airport Express.
  2. Add more ticket vending machines and make sure they accept new bills and coins, eventually debit/credit cards.
  3. Ensure that the new train stations have bigger spaces from elevators, escalators, and waiting areas.
  4. Have more integrated terminals to make sure MRT and LRT stations are easily accessible from any point in the city.  Partner with private institutions to provide an integrated transport terminal per city like what One Ayala has in Ayala MRT Station. If possible, provide P2P shuttles going to the MRT/LRT Stations in each city.
  5. Provide waiting sheds and waiting areas outside the stations where applicable to provide convenience for people (especially seniors) waiting for their last-mile transfers going home/to work.

ANO ANG MAPAPALA KO RITO?

A robust train system, starting with the MRT, is a win-win for everyone:

  • Faster and more efficient commutes to and from work
  • Quicker transportation of goods and services.
  • More time for rest, sleep, recreation, and productivity.
  • Quality moments with family and loved ones.
  • Reduced stress and tardiness for work or business.
  • Increased preference for train travel over driving.
  • Lower environmental impact through reduced car emissions.
  • Renewed trust in the transportation sector and government.

If nagagawa ng ibang bansa ang maayos na train system, kaya rin natin!

YOUR VOICE MATTERS.

This is where you come in.

Demand the Senate Committee on Public Services headed by Senator Grace Poe to not only seek answers but also deliver both short and long-term solutions. Let's not blame any administration anymore and focus on providing a way forward now.

THIS IS BEYOND POLITICS.

Kahit anong political color mo, let's unite to reduce our commute time, revitalize our economy, and reinvest in our environment.

Let's help our leaders restore our trust in the government and insist on progress that moves as swiftly as the trains we were promised.

WHY I AM DOING THIS PETITION:

In 2023, I had the opportunity to visit 10 countries at na-experience ko ang efficiency ng public transportation from train, trams, to buses.

Napaisip ako,, "Bakit sa Pilipinas hindi ganito?"

This led me to consume a lot of videos, articles, and discussions on public transportation (especially, trains) and urban development.

And I felt the urge to start this petition so that even if we are just ordinary citizens, we can do our part in improving the situation.

Note: The images featured in this petition are for illustrational purposes, derived from public sources. They are not indicative of daily conditions. We eagerly await updates from the DOTr regarding the Dalian trains' status and future plans.
