One year ago today Biden announced the start of the monthly child tax credit (CTC) checks. Today we are marking this anniversary all wrong. This is the first day a check is NOT going to arrive in your bank account or mailbox. Take action now: click here to retweet a message of #WheresMyCheck. We as parents and caregivers need to get loud today!
Need more fuel for your fire? Read this amazing article that explains clearly all that we have lost by not extending the CTC expansion.
So, here is a reminder of what we are fighting for:
- no income requirement so that the poorest families in the country, the majority of them Black and Latinx, can access the full amount.
- changed how we get the money to a monthly check instead of an annual lump sum.
- increased amount, from a maximum of $2,000 to $3,600, and divvied up in payments from July to December of $300 each for kids under 6, and $250 each for kids 6 to 17.
- the second half of the payments will come in with taxes this year.
Rosa Walker is a mom from Oregon stated the painful truth: “It’s almost harder to have [the child tax credit] and have it taken away.” For the first time ever millions of families felt supported, cared for, relieved and now we are going backwards. COVID is spiking, kids are going remote and the monthly checks are not coming. Don’t let them take the child checks away. Call out the Senators - click here to retweet a message of #WheresMyCheck.
Thank you!
