It's now been more than one year since we started our effort to restore sanity to the Yonkers noise code. And it seems likely that we may reach an important milestone in the next month. I'm hoping it's victory. Otherwise, the campaign will remain unbowed.
A few weeks ago, we filed a lawsuit in the Westchester Supreme Court challenging the legality of the City Council's June 25 vote that secretly doubled down on an 85-decibel daytime noise limit, a provision that one leading noise expert labeled "nothing more than a license to pollute." At the same time, we're seeking to force the city to honor freedom of information law (FOIL) requests, which they have failed to honor for many months.
So while this campaign is about a bad noise ordinance that hurts our health and quality of life, it's also about governance. I'm optimistic that our litigation will be resolved in our favor. We'll let yourknow!
