Don’t Let Trump Gut Clean Car Rules - Add Your Name
The Issue
The Trump administration just announced plans to roll back national fuel efficiency standards—a move that will increase pollution, stall progress on climate goals, and cost Americans more at the pump.
Fuel economy standards are one of the most effective environmental policies in U.S. history. They reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, save drivers money, and push automakers to innovate. Since 2012, these rules have saved Americans over $120 billion in fuel costs and prevented billions of tons of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere.
Now, under pressure to lower new car prices, President Trump wants to gut these protections—even though experts say the rollback won’t reduce prices in the near term. Instead, it will:
- Let automakers build less efficient, more polluting vehicles
- Increase dependence on oil and boost fuel demand
- Undermine U.S. leadership in clean vehicle technology
- Set back national efforts to meet climate targets.
Even worse, the new plan would reclassify small SUVs and crossovers to weaken the standards further—despite the fact that these vehicles are now some of the most popular on the road.
We call on the U.S. Congress, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Transportation to:
- Reject the Trump administration’s rollback of fuel efficiency standards
- Maintain or strengthen clean car rules already in place through 2031
- Hold automakers accountable for continuing progress on zero-emission technologies
- Prioritize air quality and public health over short-term corporate gains.
This isn’t just about cars—it’s about the air we breathe, the planet we share, and the future we build.
Don’t let this administration erase decades of environmental progress. Add your name to stop the rollback and protect clean car standards.
