President Trump and Republicans in Congress want to ban the mailing of abortion pills.

Medication abortion (i.e. abortion pills) is used in the majority of abortion care across the country. It’s safe, effective, and a crucial way for people to make decisions about their own bodies and lives. Medication abortion is literally safer than Tylenol or Viagra.

Abortion bans are unpopular. Like other prescriptions mailed directly to you, the mailing of abortion pills ensures more health care access, including to people living in rural areas, far away from health clinics, or living with disabilities. 

Trump and his allies are using every lever of government they can to try to ban abortion.

The new U.S. Attorney General, Todd Blanche, has vowed to take down abortion rights. He told anti-abortion groups that the Department of Justice will work to make abortion bans “permanent in every single state.”

Trump’s team also plans to weaponize a super-outdated law called the Comstock Act to block abortion medications from being shipped anywhere in the U.S.—without Congress even voting on it.  

The Comstock Act was written in 1873, before women even had the right to vote. A radical interpretation of the Comstock Act could be misenforced overnight—essentially banning abortion in ALL states. 🚨 This isn’t a hypothetical. This is a real possibility if anti-abortion extremists get their way.

At Blanche’s confirmation hearing, Senator Ted Cruz asked Blanche if the department would "ensure the faithful enforcement of the Comstock Act." Todd Blanche said, "Yes."

Republicans are exploiting 150-year-old laws as part of their broader strategy to restrict reproductive freedom nationwide.
