The Maldives’ ruling party, People’s National Congress (PNC), led by President Mohamed Muizzu, is rushing a law to merge presidential and parliamentary elections. If this happens, your vote for local MPs will be overshadowed, Parliament will lose independence, and mid-term accountability will disappear.

Right now, we get two chances to make our voices heard — one for president, and one for MPs. This amendment will take that away. Parliament passed it with 72 votes on February 10, 2026, and opposition MPs were even kicked out for protesting.
