Don't Let Our Wells Run Dry - Protect Sinton's Water

Don't Let Our Wells Run Dry - Protect Sinton's Water
The Issue
Concern that heavy pumping could affect wells in Sinton - Residents of Sinton are concerned that excessive ground water pumping will lower the water table and threaten private wells. We ask the groundwater district to protect the water resources for Sinton and limit large export permits.
The groundwater issue could affect several local Sinton groups depending on how much water is pumped and how the aquifer responds.
-Taxes could potentially increase for Sinton residents to keep up with demand for drilling deeper wells, building larger pumps, installing new pipelines, and water treatment. This may affect Sinton property taxes, water utility bills, and bonds residents pay off over time.
-Rural homeowners in Sinton will likely be affected first. Homes outside of city water systems rely entirely on private wells.
-Sinton Farmers and Ranchers will be next, with wells used to support irrigation and livestock. Agriculture is also a major part of the county economy; this will risk the jobs for roughly 350-400 of Sinton residents employed in the agricultural sector.
