Don’t Let Oklahoma Schools Teach a Bible That Hides the 13th Amendment
The Issue
Every student in Oklahoma deserves a full, truthful education about their rights and history. But right now, classrooms across the state are being stocked with a Bible that includes only part of the U.S. Constitution—omitting critical amendments that define who we are as a country.
This “God Bless the USA Bible,” distributed with the backing of State Superintendent Ryan Walters, includes the original Constitution but deliberately leaves out Amendments 11 through 27.
That means no mention of the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery, the 19th granting women the right to vote, the 22nd limiting presidential terms, or the 26th lowering the voting age to 18.
Removing these amendments doesn’t just mislead, it actively erases the progress we’ve fought for as a nation.
Walters claims these Bibles are meant to teach “historical context.” But how can students learn real history when major parts of it are missing? This isn’t just sloppy education, it’s political and religious indoctrination disguised as curriculum.
Public school classrooms are not pulpits. Our Constitution belongs to all Americans, not just to one religious or political viewpoint. Rewriting or censoring it, especially while using public funding, is a dangerous violation of both educational standards and the separation of church and state.
We’re calling on the Oklahoma State Department of Education to immediately:
- Remove altered Bibles from public school classrooms.
- Require all civic materials used in classrooms to present the entire Constitution.
- Uphold academic standards free from religious or political distortion.
This is not just about Oklahoma. If this can happen here, it can happen anywhere.
Sign this petition to demand the full truth be taught in our schools, not selective history wrapped in religious ideology. Our students, and our democracy, deserve better.
