The Issue

The federal SAVE Plan (Saving on a Valuable Education) helped millions of Americans make their student loan payments manageable — often reducing monthly costs based on income, and providing a clear path to debt relief.

But now the U.S. Department of Education and the Donald Trump‑led administration are moving to shut down SAVE for good, ending new enrolments, denying pending applications, and forcing current borrowers into less affordable repayment plans.

For millions of borrowers — recent graduates, public service workers, parents, and low‑income Americans — this means higher monthly bills, resumed interest accrual, and uncertainty about their financial future. For many, the shift could push them into financial hardship, default, or force them to delay major life decisions like buying a home or starting a family.

We call on the Department of Education and Congress to recognize that canceling SAVE is not just a policy change — it’s a blow to the hopes and stability of hardworking Americans.

Demand that SAVE remains alive in a way that preserves its key safeguards: income‑based payments, transparent eligibility, and guaranteed protections for vulnerable borrowers. Ensure that student loans remain manageable — not a lifelong burden.

Add your name now to say: Don’t kill SAVE. Stand with borrowers who deserve fair, affordable repayment — not unpredictable hardship.
