Don't kill the Music/ Save The Cambridge
The issue
Linkcity has called last drinks on the Cambridge Hotel to make way for student accommodation and we’re taking a stand to ensure Newcastle doesn’t lose another live music venue.
The proposed development takes away an iconic and vital part of Newcastle’s rich music history and scene.
This is why I am calling on the developer to reconsider the location of the development.
If the development goes ahead, we will be on the path of making Newcastle null and void to the Australian music industry and beyond. This will affect both local/emerging artists and touring acts/headliners coming in to Newcastle. It’s time to stand up for our artists, venues, agents, and crews and for an industry that has been on its knees for the past two years due to COVID.
There are already limited outlets in the city for larger capacity events/gigs for the arts, and given that this is an industry recognised venue (one of Newcastle’s only) we are severely impacting our artists and local industry if this development goes ahead.
If Linkcity will not relocate their development then the Cambridge Hotel must be incorporated into the future plan for the site.
You can also contact Linkcity and tell them to reconsider their plans. Call them on 9958 1474 or send them a message via https://www.linkcity-au.com/contact/
WE CAN'T LOSE ANOTHER LIVE MUSIC VENUE!
If we allow this, we are potentially also opening the door for more venues to be wiped out in future, along with music, events, arts, culture or night-life as we know it. We are all about the city progressing, but simply can't stand for this particular proposal here!
This just can't proceed in our opinion.
