The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill to slash housing stipends for children of service members going to school with transferred Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits -- by 50%.

This bill already won a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. Now it’s on the way to the U.S. Senate for a vote. If this bill wins in the U.S. Senate, it goes to President Trump for his final approval. We can’t let this happen.

I’m an injured military veteran. I’m proud to have served my country. Unfortunately, my service left me with a life-long disability. I’d do it all over again. Serving has been a fantastic experience for me and my family. But injured vets like me rely upon the stipend assistance the Post 9-11/GI Bill offers for our children. Slashing those benefits would be financially devastating for our families.

Minnesota Rep. Tim Walz spoke out against this bill on the House floor, saying in part: “paying for [new programs] by reducing a benefit that service members have been promised "is an egregious breach of trust."
