During Fall of 2024, GHS and BHS will make a transition to a block schedule. This  is due to immense budget cuts. This new schedule will install 80 minute periods… with there only being 4 classes in a day. Those days will alternate classes. On an “A-Day” periods 1-4, while “B-Days” will be periods 5-8. While all that is occurring, multiple changes to the school-day timeframe will also happen. During Wednesdays people will have to attend first period at 9:35. Here are some issues with the schedule:

• If a student were to miss Friday due to sports and other activities, it would take them until Tuesday to go back to those classes. This schedule hurts those who participate in extra curricular activities.
• Teachers will have to rewrite curriculums to fit 80 minutes.
• Knowledge retention won’t last due to gaps between classes.
• As listed in the petition comments, 80 minutes is a lot of time to be in a class and get bored… thus leading to more procrastination.
• Wednesdays start school at 9:35 when most parents are at work. More bus routes will have to be ran for those who can’t yet drive. 

Many more issues are present and this petition will be continuously updated to fit what is happening. As more info is shared about why our reasonings could be flawed we will remove them. Overall, this petition probably won’t do anything… HOWEVER, it works to show general dissatisfaction inside of the community.
