Train Domino's Staff to Understand Veganism
The issue
Countless vegans were elated when Domino's Pizza announced they would be adding vegan topping options such as vegan cheese, vegan pepperoni, etc. to their menu. Subsequently, countless vegans have been met with shock, disappointment, and frustration after ordering vegan pizza only to have it come with meat or cheese. This has become such a common occurrence that many vegans, such as myself, have completely given up on Domino's.
Mistakes are unavoidable, and we accept this will happen sometimes. However, through speaking to staff it is clear that, at least in some locations, the issue is more than just human error. On many occasions vegans have reported that the Domino's staff have insisted they made the pizza correctly, when this is factually untrue and can be backed up with photographic evidence. Some staff do not know the difference between vegan and vegetarian. Here are some quotes taken from a vegan Facebook group:
"We need to create a separate group page called ‘dominoes f’ed up a simple vegan pizza again’. I see way too many posts about them here."
"There is no way I’m ever ordering a vegan pizza from Domino's. Ever. So many failures!"
"I have had the same issue probably 5 times."
"We had this happen only the other week. It’s been so long since I’ve eaten meat/seen it and I took a bite. Thought it tasted odd... Then 10 minutes later we had the domino's manager at our house with the actual vegan pizza. My husband said “my vegan wife took a bite of the other pizza and this really isn’t good enough”... She laughed and thought it was hilarious. I took the pizza off my kids plates before they ate any and they were really upset that they “almost ate a animal”
I was furious."
"They never get it right!"
"I've heard of so many people getting meat on their vegan pizza's so I would never buy from Domino's. And then people in the stores laugh about it. Not for me."
We believe the only way forward is for Domino's to take some steps in ensuring all their staff understand what the word 'vegan' means, it could be as simple as letting all managers know this is an issue and asking them to speak to their staff to avoid this in the future.
