I propose a lobby group with fees only 33% of the current RACGP fees while also maintaing your CPD - so you do not need to be a member of the RACGP or ACCRM if you do not wish to be (and save perhaps a thousand dollars a year in the process while getting better representation)

Please only sign if you are a registered medical doctor (with AHPRA) or a General Practice owner in Australia and would be prepared to pay ~$500 in membership fees if we get more than 1,000 signatories. Please include your AHPRA number.

General Practice is being abused by the government and our leadership is ineffective to stop it.

We've been through just in the last few years

- a new tactic of enforcing bulk billing (based on a rebate value less than half what it should be) - eg with telehealth and now the covid vaccination items

- a decade long medicare freeze

- loss of ECG rebates

- increasing loss of turf to pharmacy and nursing

- an RACGP endorsed move towards capitation - this will be an unmitigated disaster if we look at the experience of UK GPs combined with the clear goal of government to reduce costs while increasing bureaucratic control.

We have an RACGP that is ineffective because it refuses to lobby as a matter of principle. 

The fate of general practice without change is clear - a slow rot as we continue to be underfunded more and more each year with less and less autonomy over our patient encounters while suffering more and more risk of audit based on statistics and 99% conviction rates.

Right now we cannot fill the current places in training. Young doctors prefer to sit in limbo in unaccredited jobs to nowhere in public hospitals than join us. Nearly 90% of medical graduates now choose careers other than GP. 

A system cannot exist based on the sacrifice of individual GPs. We are harming our patients by our inaction. We are creating a future where patients instead receive fragmented care through multiple non GP specialists, at far greater cost to both patient and taxpayer. We are creating a future of poorer health outcomes and increased barriers to care. We must act even if we only care about our patients and not ourselves.

We need a GP controlled lobby/union group. This will unashamedly use all legal means of lobbying to put the health of our patients first. General Practice must be saved. The pharmacy guild shows us the immense power than an effective professional lobby group can yield. Imagine power like that used for the good of general practice, all GPs, and the patients we care so much about?
