Do not use the Yondr Pouch

The Issue

Sign so that we can keep our phones and our privacy. Our phones are OUR property, not the school's. The policy is going into effect on January 9, 2024. We will have to put our phones and bluetooth devices like airpods and headphones in a bag with a special lock that can only be accessed at the end of the day. The only way we will be able yo reach our parents is through the phone in the office. If there's an emergency, we won't be able to text anyone because of the policy. Also, collective punishment isn't necessary for the people who DO pay attention in class, which is extremely unfair.

Here's the announcement email:

Dear CHS Families,

I hope this email finds you well and preparing for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I wanted to let you know about a new cell phone procedure that was approved at tonight's school board meeting. Next semester, we will be implementing the Yondr Program.

Yondr is a pouch to store cell phones and other Bluetooth devices in during the school day. It is secured and unlocked with a special magnetic locking device. Students will be required to store their phones and Bluetooth devices in the Yondr pouch for the duration of the school day. Pouches will be unlocked after the last academic class of the day.

It's no secret that cell phones and other Bluetooth devices are causing major distractions for teens across the nation during the school day. This new program will help minimize distractions and maximize student learning. We also believe it will improve overall student engagement. All of these things, we believe, will contribute to student success in the classroom.

We will be holding grade-level meetings with students in December to discuss the process in greater detail. We will also share more information with families regarding the rollout of the Yondr Program. Additionally, we will be hosting an informational session for families regarding Yondr on Monday, January 8 at 6:00 p.m. If you have questions prior to the informational meeting, we will be happy to answer them. Please feel free to submit questions via  this Google Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdyoNoEL2fARAsFZ0IgWKtgCakLaQ9bfiisGl5bDV62S7HC3w/viewform?usp=sf_link I've also attached a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) based on feedback from other school districts that have implemented this program.

Students will receive their Yondr pouch when they return from the Winter Break on Tuesday, Ja

Thank you for your time and have a great evening.
