Do not replace the current Idaho math and ELA standards

Do not replace the current Idaho math and ELA standards
The Issue
Members of the Idaho House of Representatives have been working to change the current Idaho standards. Those standards can be found here.
The removal of our current standards will set teachers and students back. Some have suggested that the revised standards are more concise, but that does not mean they give teachers more clarity. Teachers have spent years developing units around the foundational concepts that are sufficiently addressed in the current standards. They are finally able to pinpoint skills students need to be successful and areas where each child is lacking. If the revised standards are adopted, it will set teachers back more than a decade and will be detrimental to Idaho’s children.
Changing the standards will place another moving target in front of teachers. If we adopt new standards, our high-stakes testing measures will also change. We cannot continue to change accountability measures for students and teachers. Educators will be discouraged and dejected, leading to a surge of teachers leaving the workforce.
