Exclude Special Educational Needs (ASN/SEN) schools in the disruption of strike action!
The Issue
Please sign this petition to make the Scottish Government instate a law to exclude ASN/SEN Schools and Autism Bases in the disruption caused by strike action.
We fully agree that teachers deserve a pay rise, and actually those in these environments have to deal with many more adverse behaviours than usual, but we need to consider the impact these strikes have on the routine and structure that these children require, the fall back from these mean these teachers jobs become harder whilst they get the children back into routines again. (Again why they deserve decent pay!)
We are not asking teachers not to strike, we will support them every step of the way to you getting the amount they deserve for the incredible job they do. We are asking that these particular schools/provisions are excused from being required to strike.
This week my 10yr old autistic son will be in school only 2 days out of 5. Last week due to the holidays, this was the same but we were organised and kept busy. For the next 3 weeks he will be in school 2 days out of 5 causing a huge disruption to his routine and calm.
This will result in multiple meltdowns, inability to socialise without distress, and us watching him struggle due to something completely avoidable if the world just took the time to understand the impact these changes have.
If you need to have a little insight into autism, watch Inside Our Autistic Mind with Chris Packham. It will help you connect with these children just a little better.
Please instate a law that removes these provisions and schools from the disruption strike action causes them.
