We the people in the catchment area of Peconic Bay Medical Center vehemently oppose the closure of the Skilled Nursing Facility/Subacute Rehabilitation/Long Term Care Facility that is owned & operated by PBMC & Northwell Health. The closure of this unit/facility will negatively affect the residents of eastern Long Island, as post-operative & patients no in need of skilled nursing care after hospitalization will have to be transferred to facilities at least 20 minutes away from the hospital to receive the services formerly provided in the SNF/rehab facility. Also, our elderly need long term care services for dementia/Alzheimer’s, physical handicaps & custodial care. Transferring these patients will severely disrupt their orientation to their surroundings, exacerbate their dementia/Alzheimer’s disease & create a barrier to family/friends that want to visit them.  If the rehab/SNF is closed despite community opposition, then we, the public, will boycott PBMC & seek medical services elsewhere.  The closure of this facility has been kept a secret from the public due to public outrage & Northwell/PBMC’s continuous quest for more money to add to their coffers!  WE DEMAND THAT THE SNF/REHAB/LTC FACILITY AT PBMC REMAIN OPEN OR WE SHALL BOYCOTT THE HOSPITAL & ALL NORTHWELL/PBMC FACILITIES!!!
