This is Bonbon, a stray who reportedly went missing last December 7, 2022. He was seen roaming the roads of Brgy. Bonbon, Cebu City with a knife stuck on his head.

Last week, residents and those who joined in locating Bonbon delivered him to a nearby veterinary clinic, veterinarians successfully removed the object safely from the dog. Bonbon is a stray dog but a caretaker of a farm in the area has been looking out for his welfare, together with another stray dog. Luckily, he survived the horrible ordeal, thanks to the generosity and support of Cebu’s animal-loving community. Bonbon’s story also reached the attention of local officials who vowed to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The innocent dog is a victim of animal cruelty and sorrowfully, he is just one of the millions around the globe. Unlike violent crimes against people, cases of animal abuse are not compiled by state or federal agencies, making it difficult to calculate just how common they are.
