Homeowners' Associations (HOAs) are supposed to protect the rights and properties of homeowners. However, numerous reports indicate that many HOAs have become burdens rather than supports. Countless homeowners share stories of overzealous HOA boards, arbitrary fines, and undue stress caused by these organizations. A 2019 investigation by The Arizona Republic found that HOAs filed approximately 30,000 lawsuits against homeowners in the Phoenix area over unpaid dues, in some cases as little as $50 (source: The Arizona Republic). This is just one regional example of a nationwide problem. It’s time we stepped forward to dissolve these unjust entities and create an alternative that truly serves homeowners and protects their rights. We must work together to pass legislation that curbs the power of HOAs and negates their ability to impose unnecessary penalties.
