DISNEYLAND! Postpone the Haunted Mansion Nightmare Before Christmas overlay until December

The Issue

Every Halloween since 2001, Disneyland has covered their perfectly creepy, family friendly Haunted Mansion with the Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas overlay.

The overlay is just that — a blanket of IP imagery thrown on top of the art of the original attraction. It feels rushed, not well integrated, and leaves much to be desired.

The ballroom "peppers ghost" display, once filled with many ghosts becomes home to a lonely "Zero" flying around the ballroom. The graveyard gets covered with white snow blankets that look straight out of a department store. Even worse — the snow bounces light around the environment, flushing out the once spooky graveyard.

It creates a sub par experience that has nothing to do with the original theme or design.

There is nothing wrong with doing an overlay or with Nightmare Before Christmas, and we know some people love the seasonal transformation. But Halloween season is a time for us to truly appreciate the art of the original design.

The Haunted Mansion's creepy mysterious lore entertains and connects with audiences on a deeper level that transcends the cinema medium of Nightmare Before Christmas. During Halloween, we want to walk through and feel the artists' original spooky intent.

This petition is to ask The Walt Disney Company to postpone the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay until December. Let us enjoy one of Disney's most unique experiences the way the original Imagineers — and Mister Walt Disney himself —intended over the Halloween season.
