For Southeast Asian regions: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Philippines

As of 8 October 2025, Disney+ Hotstar was relaunched as Disney+, but stuck at the very buggy Hotstar X platform (www.apps.disneyplus.com) instead of the global unified platform (www.disneyplus.com). My hopes of getting Disney+ in SEA relaunched as a global Disney+ platform have been crushed.

The only Southeast Asian country gets the global unified Disney+ is Singapore.

If it's still on the Hotstar platform, we can't use it to watch overseas travelling, unlike the global Disney+ app. Also, some classic titles that are on global Disney+ aren't on the Hotstar X platform of Disney+ (e.g. The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh), and most of the classic titles are PAL pitched instead of the original speed NTSC. There are not even a Mandarin Chinese dub and subtitle in newer titles for Malaysian Chinese viewers.

The classic titles that are not on the Hotstar X "Disney+" platform in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand:

• The Three Caballeros (1945)
• Fun and Fancy Free (1947)
• Melody Time (1948)
• The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)
• Oliver & Company (1988)
• The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
• Goof Troop
• The Lion King's Timon and Pumbaa

While the rest of the world outside SEA (except Singapore) enjoyed Disney+ without issues, we are currently suffering on the very buggy Hotstar platform. We can't have GroupWatch feature, cannot watch in Mandarin Chinese for Malaysian Chinese viewers, and previously used to have Premier Access (which was discontinued in 2021).

 

 

We cannot use the Hotstar X "Disney+" platform overseas while travelling aboard. The Hotstar X "Disney+" platform also cannot be used in Disney Cruise Line (including Disney Adventure based in Singapore). This will give us an error message like this below. We are also missing the Widget feature for iOS users from the global unified Disney+. It's not available for Hotstar X versions of Disney+ in SEA, MENA, and South Africa. Images from https://www.disneyplus.com/explore/articles/disney-plus-ios-widgets 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, the unified global version of Disney+ needs to add more SEA languages like Thai, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog, and Vietnamese for the UI, subtitles, and audio tracks to cater viewers migrated to Singapore or outside Southeast Asia. The global unified Disney+ is accessible thru VPN, but the Hotstar X isn't.

Due to the buggy Hotstar X platform and not the global unified Disney+ platform, and the lack of new original content from Southeast Asia, Disney+ Hotstar SEA was losing a lot of subscribers. We think Disney+ will need to step up to bring in more Southeast Asian originals, like back with more from Malaysia and Singapore, Indonesia, as well as Thailand and the Philippines.

Disney+ is still missing on these Asian countries where its competitor, HBO Max (by Warner Bros), has launched.

Seriously? Disney+ Malaysia and Philippines social accounts promote the Hulu on Disney+ video that shows the global unified Disney+ app which we wanted. Not the buggy same Hotstar X "Disney+" app we are currently using.

 

 

Also, they still never fix the audio issue in the original animated "Lilo & Stitch" that was replaced to a new 4K remaster since 26/6/2025. The new 4K remaster replaced the dryer to a pizza box, but the audio heard is the old dryer hinge. Proof is the video below recorded by me:

The global unified Disney+ on a smart TV app sometimes has characters appearing on the startup logo to commerate the movie release on Disney+. The Hotstar X one doesn't have...

The Hotstar X platform is getting boring. Look at HBO Max, the layout is similar to the global unified Disney+, and showcasing the Top 10 in a beautiful layout.

 

 

Also, Disney+ Perks on a global unified Disney+ platform can login directly with a Disney account and can join contests easily.

 

 

The Hotstar X platform for Disney+ Perks, the problem is joining contests need to DM your entry via Instagram but ended up they didn't read your message at all...

The more signatures collected in this petition, the higher the chance likely to have Disney Southeast Asia consider realunching as global unified platform. I also have to send petition letters to Disney SEA office in Singapore.
