Lucasfilm should release episodes II, III, VIII and IX extended editions

O problema

To Disney, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm

The four longest Star Wars’ movies are, in descending order “The Last Jedi” (2h and 33 min) then “Attack of the Clones” (2h and 22 min), “A rise of Skywalker” (2h and 22 min) and the “The Revenge of the Sith” (2h and 20 min), in this order, episodes VIII, II, IX e III. All those movies would have been longer, but they were cut under the justification that the Star Wars movies could not be longer. Such explanation can be found in commentaries of Rian Johnson and George Lucas, making the movies with a maximum two and a half hour of running time. The Star Wars saga is made for children around 12 years old, and we understand that and why the theatrical release of the movie should be smaller, but we don’t see any reason for Lucasfilm to not release an extended edition of these movies. We, fans, would love to watch longer versions of the movies we have so much love, and would appreciate a lot if Lucasfilm and Disney release the extended cut of these movies.

Obs: Much of the deleted scenes of these movies are Canon, and some the scenes that are not Canon does not interfere with the current Expanded Universe, so these scenes could easy be considered as Canon by Lucasfilm Story Group. We are only asking for an Canon extended version of the movies, that could be longer and include important scenes that were cut from the original versions.

EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES

Attack of the Clones show us in a side the relationship between Padmé and Anakin, and in other hand the political intrigues in the republic that creates the Clone Wars. One of the problems of a shorter movie, is that we don’t get a lot about the separatist crisis, important plot to understand the clone wars, only those who watched the animated series will understand what the separatists were fighting for and who really is Count Dooku.

Scenes that I think should be added:

Padmé Addresses the Senate, The Lost Twenty and Dooku Interrogates Padmé: These three scenes ad a lot to the separatist crisis and to Dooku’s background, they are enough to understand that the separatist movement, in its core, is a rebellion fighting for some good ideals, but they are being manipulated by Palpatine.

Extended Arrival on Naboo, Padmé’s Parents’ House and Padmé’s Bedroom: These three scenes present us a little more about Padmé’s political career and her family, it is a good background of the character and also a introduction of her family, that we see in her funeral but know nothing about.

EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH

It is surprising to know that Revenge of the Sith original cut would have been four hour long, and though I know that perhaps most of the deleted scenes are not nearly complete, a lot of good and important scenes were removed for the sake of time, like the Rebel Alliance sub-plot and the Jedi council expecting something from Palpatine.

Some of these scenes that could be on a final version of the movie:

Changes to Constitution, A Plot to Destroy the Jedi?, A Stirring in the senate, Seeds of Rebellion, e Confronting the Chancellor: Theses scenes are related with each other, they present both the Rebel alliance sub plot and the Jedi council thinking about Palpatine’s plan, investigating and looking for proofs of his evil intentions. But the most important part of it is the plan of Bail Organa and Mon Mothma for the formation of the Rebellion, an organization that started as a senator’s movement to stop further amendments of the constitution by Palpatine. The most important fact is that these scenes about the rebel alliance are Canon.

Obi-Wan visits Padmé on Coruscant: This scene was never really shown to us, but we can see some screening of it in the making off and exist in the screenplay. Before going to Utapau, Obi-Wan goes to Padmé to talk about Anakin been in a difficult situation and he says he knows about their relationship.

Yoda Communes with Qui-Gon e Yoda Exiled to Dagobah: Those two scenes put Yoda on the place we find him in Empire Strikes Back, it could add a lot to Force Ghosts in the movies.

EPISODE VIII: THE LAST JEDI

This is the longest movie in the franchise, but a lot was cut, again, for the sake of time, as Rian Johnson says in the Deleted Scenes category on the bonus disc. I understand not wanting to release a three-hour version of the movie on the theaters, but there is no reason for cutting it for home release. Some important scenes for the entire saga plot, especially those around the arrogance of the Jedi Order.

Scenes that should be on an extended cut:

Luke Has a Moment, Caretaker Village Sequence: Those are important scenes, they were moments to understand Luke’s fears and what he believes at this point. One is an emotional moment and the other show a lesson about the Jedi of the Past. There is no reason for those scenes to be cut besides the sake of the running time.

Phasma Squealed Like a Whoop Hog: The entire Phasma book was created for this scene, showing that she is not loyal to the first order, she only wants power, and kills everything in her way to achieve it.

EPISODE IX: RISE OF SKYWALKER

This is difficult to talk about because we are not sure of the deleted scenes thar could be in this movies but were cut for the sake of time, but commentaries of the screenwriter Criss Terrio says that a lot of Leia and Rose scenes were cut, alongside with an explanation of how Palpatine has returned. I know that people are asking for a director’s cut of the movie, but what I think that we should ask for an extended cut of all these four movies that suffered of larger cuts, all these movies deserve an extended edition and would be really cool if we had it, as I said before, there is no reason for not to releasing it.
