The Issue

"Wonder Man" on Disney+ was more than just a television show for me and my family; it was a significant cultural moment. As a Black married couple, my wife and I found immense joy and relatability in a series that not only entertained us but resonated with our cultural identity. Seeing a Black actor lead a major Marvel series was groundbreaking. It was refreshing and inspiring to witness meaningful Black representation in such a renowned superhero universe. This show mattered, not just to us but to countless fans who see themselves and their stories reflected in these characters.

Marvel Studios previously announced that "Wonder Man" would have a second season, a promise that sparked excitement and anticipation among fans worldwide. The sudden decision to cancel the show's return is disappointing and disheartening. It also disregards the diverse fan base that has eagerly supported and promoted the series. The cancellation is not just a loss of entertainment but a setback for diversity and representation.

"Wonder Man" brought a unique perspective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), showcasing complex narratives and humor that appealed to a wide array of viewers. For many, it was a weekly highlight, a time set aside to connect with characters who mirrored our stories, struggles, and triumphs. The recent expansion of the MCU recognizes the vital importance of diverse voices and stories. Canceling the second season of "Wonder Man" dismisses this progress and sends a message that diverse stories are expendable.

A Nielsen report highlighted that shows with diverse casts often outperform expectations and attract a broader demographic. This is evident with "Wonder Man," which not only had unique storylines but also created an inclusive viewing experience for families across the globe. Marvel Television has a responsibility to provide representation and stories that all fans can enjoy.

We call on Disney+, Marvel Studios, Marvel Television, and Disney Entertainment to reconsider their decision. Producing Season 2 of "Wonder Man" will not only fulfill a promise made to fans but will continue to set a precedent for diverse storytelling in Hollywood. Let us continue to share in these stories, to feel seen and heard in a world of heroes.

Please join us in urging Disney+ and Marvel Studios to reverse the decision and move forward with the production of "Wonder Man" Season 2. Sign this petition and help us advocate for the representation our communities deserve.
