Dismiss Javier 'Dardo' Zafra de Jáudenes from his Director role at Fnatics League Division

The Issue

Fnatic currently has massive problems with its League of Legends division. Since 2019 Fnatic appointed a new General Manager for their League divison, Javier "Dardo" Zafra de Jáudenes.

While the results of the League team have not been bad for the past 4 years (excluding 2023), they have also not met the standards that Fnatic achieved in the past. The League team has had management problems, resulting in drama and friction in the team. While every team has some sort of conflict every once in a while, it always seemed like Fnatic's drama is a level above the other teams. This not only sheds a very bad light on Fnatic as an organisation, but also makes promising young rookies or long-seasoned veterans not want to play on the team.

After a couple of horrible management decisions during the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, the League team is now in it's worst state since Fnatic started competing in the game, placing 9th in the league in the winter split.

The horrible decisions include:

  1. Not (properly) organizing practice leading up to Worlds 2022, resulting in the team not scrimming other teams at all.

  2. Forcing the coaching staff to replace Hylissang with Rhuckz after a poor performance at the tournament.

  3. Firing Hylissang over his Worlds performance, despite knowing the circumstances that he had to play under at worlds. (Sickness, bad practice due to low fps, no scrims leading up to worlds, jetlag.)

  4. Locking Rhuckz for the 2023 roster before discussing the change with Upset and before exploring other ADC options, that may not want to play with the new support.

These and past decisions by the management led to:

  • Upset disagreeing heavily with the managements actions and therefore not wanting to play for the team in 2023.
  • Other botlanes not wanting to play for Fnatic, since Rhuckz was locked already.

For the LEC 2023 winter split the team didn't work together at all, due to the managements awful decisions regarding the new roster.

Changes have been made between winter and spring split to ensure a better performance, which included replacing Wunder for FNTQ's toplaner Oscarinin and Rhuckz for FNTQ's Support Advienne.

While replacing Rhuckz was by many people considered a good and needed change, almost everyone agreed that replacing Wunder didn't make much sense, even before seeing how Oscarinin would perform. Not only does Oscarinin not have ANY experience playing in the LEC, he is also considered a strongside toplaner, which doesn't really fit Fnatic's current playstyle.

To conclude:

  • The only constant from 2019 to 2023 was Dardo. From 2019 to 2023 every year there was some kind of drama in the team. This has been confirmed by multiple players of different iterations of the team (Adam, Bwipo, Upset, Nemesis, Selfmade, Nisqy).
  • Future promising rookies are turning down opportunites by Fnatic due to the horrible past and current management decisions.
  • The team is performing horribly, matter of fact the WORST since competing in League.
  • Horrible roster decisions and no proper philosophy on how to build a roster
  • Horrible scouting and possible new player evaluation

It is important to show the upper management of Fnatic how many people disagree with still keeping Dardo in the role of the Director of the League Division. Many people agree that while keeping Dardo on the team, he will continue to run the once so successful League Division into the ground.

Replacing Dardo and being completely transparent on who is and was reponsible for which tasks in the team, up from Worlds 2022 to 2023, is the only way Fnatic can restore it's credibility and come back from this mess of a season so far.
