Dismiss Councillors Exhibiting Personal Vendettas Against Local Business
The issue
I am a small business owner in Whitnash, Leamington Spa, UK. My passion is not just to run a successful enterprise but to contribute positively to our local economy and community. However, I find myself in a distressing situation where certain councillors seem to hold personal vendettas against my business. This unfair treatment is hindering my business from reaching its full potential.
I am based in the middle of a Community Centre where we are the beating heart of the community, since opening our doors in 2021 we have set up various groups for the community, including a ‘Chatter Natter’ for people who live alone, a baby group for parents to get together and have a Coffee, we provide Teas and Coffees for a Dementia Cafe & ran monthly events for Dogs.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to be able to continue when members of the Civic Centre Committee on the Town Council are Negative and openly admit they dislike the Cafe, it has been overheard and also told to us on many occasions.
If the bullying continues and the negativity, the Cafe will have to close as it is causing too much emotional distress and anxiety.
We are now being told our Lease is being looked at again to try and find ways to take more from us. Why can they not be helping us find solutions and ways to continue, rather than making our lives harder.
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, contributing significantly to employment and economic growth. According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), SMEs account for three fifths of the employment and around half of turnover in the UK private sector (source: FSB). Yet, it appears that some individuals within our council do not value this contribution.
I believe that public office should be held by those who act impartially and fairly towards all constituents - including local businesses. The actions of these councillors are not only detrimental to my business but also undermine democratic values we hold dear.
This petition seeks your support in calling for an investigation into these allegations and if found true, for the dismissal of any councillor exhibiting such biased behaviour against local businesses.
Your signature can help ensure fairness in our council's dealings with local enterprises like mine and uphold democratic principles within our community. Please sign this petition today!
