All members of the Cheyney University community (students, alumni, and current & former faculty/staff) are encouraged to show their outrage of the treatment of their University by supporting the filing of this Complaint.
In addition, if you are a federal tax payer, you should be equally outraged that the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has failed to eliminate an illegally segregated system identified by the U.S. Department of Education in 1969. This system is using your federal tax dollars to discriminate against the oldest HBCU in the nation. Therefore, just about EVERY MEMBER IN YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR CIRCLES OF FRIENDS have a stake in eliminating the illegal system of segregation identified by the US Department of Education in 1969, which continues to operate today.
PLEASE SHARE and SIGN.

As individuals with very personal ties to Cheyney University, the oldest historically black college/university (HBCU) in the United States of America, we cannot stand by as our beloved institution continues to suffer discrimination and neglect.
For over 50 years, Cheyney has faced discrimination from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), which has continued to appoint dismantling leadership, and initiated the funding disparities that discredited and undermined an equitable academic experience for students.
In response to these injustices, Save The Oldest Historically Black College Institute, Inc (SaTOHi), an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, formed by dedicated Cheyney alumni, is filing a $1.3 billion dollar complaint with the U.S. Dept of Education (citing the famous 1954 Brown v. Board of Education, that ruled segregated education systems are illegal, overturning the "separate but equal" doctrine established in the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson).
Our alma mater, once a beacon of African-American educational progress, and center of cultural and academic excellence is now in disarray. The systemic discrimination, unfair treatment, funding, debt, and years of lack of leadership has led to (a) an all-time high in the elimination of important fields of study, (b) student, faculty, and staff turnover, (c) campus disrepair and demolition of historical buildings, (d) an all-time low in institutional advancement, effectiveness, enrollment, student/alumni relations, and morale, and (e) has stalled academic progress, which has exacerbated existing inequalities under the current leadership of President Aaron Walton, and the former PASSHE appointed Presidents.
Cheyney has had more than 3 institutional advancement directors, deans, and provosts leave positions in the last 5 years, the NCAA athletic programs have been dismantled, and during Aaron Walton’s 7-year presidency, his administration has employed 3 athletic directors and 4 men’s basketball coaches.
Incredulously, one of our prominent alumnae, Hall of Fame NCAA Women’s Basketball stars, who also briefly served as Cheyney's men's assistant basketball coaches, was not offered a contract renewal. Athletic recruits were left in limbo as the coaches who recruited them were let go by Walton’s administration. This serves as another unnecessary blow to Cheyney’s reputation in the athletic community. As a result, we've experienced a significant loss of student athletes, coupled with financial losses.
We cannot stand idle and watch our treasured institution crumble under toxic leadership, systemic neglect and discrimination. Cheyney has been grossly undervalued, compared to predominantly white institutions within the PASSHE system of colleges.
The future of Cheyney’s legacy, its students, faculty, staff, and alumni, depend on it.
This is a call to all those who celebrate diversity, equality, and justice in education. Please, demand return of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania to its former state of excellence by supporting the filing of this complaint.
