Fix the spam filter in Discord - stop banning innocent people!
The Issue
We get it, spam sucks! Nobody wants to have bots spamming your favorite Discord channels. The spam filter we have on Discord is a great start to solve this problem. But it is unfortuntely not working fully as intended. Currently it leads to way too many cases of "false positives", meaning that innocent users also get caught in the filter. It is unclear why exactly this happens, but many users report that they definitely did not break the terms of service or community guidelines.
Getting marked as a spammer leads to the user's messages showing up as collapsed with the text "message hidden from likely spammer". But even worse, often the user's account is also disabled, so that it can no longer be used. For many of us this is a great loss, we have many chats, channels and gained levels that are now lost.
The only thing left to do in this case, is to contact the Discord support, to ask them to re-enable it for you. There are currently many reports saying that the time to get a response from their support team ranges from hours to months! One problem with that long of a response time is that the Discord account is permanently deleted after being disabled for one month! It is not a sensible procedure to handle such a dispute. A lot of users are losing their patience with the Discord support. There have also been reports from users that are not able to log in to the Discord to cancel their Nitro subscription, which is renewed monthly, and which they cannot use anyway. Surely taking a payment for something that can't be used nor canceled can't be legal!
What is the goal of this petition? We want Discord Inc. to fix this filter, or if that cannot be done in the short term, then at least implement a three strike system like you see on many other platforms. It would also be good if the user could re-enable his or her account for example through some automated process on the website, such as resetting the password. Even in the case where someone does actually break the community guidelines, they should at least get a second chance. The only thing the current system leads to is an increase on support tickets, more new accounts and most of all frustration!
