Discontinue the $20 bill

The Issue

Every time I reach into my wallet and catch sight of the $20 bill, I'm hit by an uncomfortable, gnawing feeling. The image on the bill bears an uncanny likeness to Jeffrey Epstein, a man whose name has become synonymous with scandal and abhorrent behavior—specifically, the heinous crime of child exploitation. This resemblance serves as a constant, troubling reminder of the despicable actions of someone who preyed on the innocent.

Currency is something we encounter daily, and it should be a symbol of our national pride, accomplishment, and unity—not a reflection of unsettling figures who have brought shame and controversy. It’s unsettling to think that such a likeness could be circulating in our wallets and purses, and I believe it's time for this to change.

Across the globe, countries have made decisions to change their currency designs to better reflect contemporary values and cultural pride. In Canada, the currency features notable figures and themes relevant to national identity and achievement. I believe the United States should consider a similar approach, where historical figures or relevant icons that embody what America stands for today take precedence on our currency.

This is an opportunity to make a significant cultural shift, to move away from figures of the past whose present-day likenesses cause discomfort and controversy, and to embrace figures who inspire unity and pride.

Join me in urging the United States Department of the Treasury and corresponding officials to consider updating the design of the $20 bill. Together, we can push for a change that aligns our currency with the values we hold dear. It's time for us to turn a new leaf and let our currency reflect the best of who we are.

Please sign this petition if you agree that it's time for a redesign of the $20 bill.
