The Issue

Imagine waking up every day, stepping outside your home, and instead of fresh air, you breathe in the dust-filled atmosphere polluted by nearby construction. This is the daily reality my family is on the brink of facing as builders such as Godrej, Gera, and Lodha commence their projects near the Megapolis circle, Hinjewadi IT park Phase 3, Pune - 411057. Our family, consisting of a 90-year-old grandmother, senior citizen parents, and young children, live in constant fear of escalating respiratory illnesses, triggered by dust and pollutants from these cement mixers.

Cement mixers, commonly used at construction sites, stir up fine particles that contribute significantly to air pollution. According to studies by the World Health Organization, exposure to such particulate matter can lead to severe respiratory diseases, including asthma, bronchitis, and can exacerbate existing health conditions. The Rajasthan Pollution Control Board highlights how onsite cement mixers contribute to air quality deterioration through dust emissions. Such environmental hazards are particularly harmful to vulnerable groups, including the elderly and young children, who are most susceptible to air-borne diseases.

In Hinjewadi, a rapidly developing IT hub, this issue is crucial. Our community prides itself on maintaining a balance between urban development and living standards, but the unchecked growth and deployment of cement mixers threaten this equilibrium. It is imperative that the builders opt for more eco-friendly practices, such as off-site mixing, which significantly reduces air pollution through controlled environments and transport of ready-mixed concrete to construction sites.

Our appeal is not to halt development, but to progress intelligently and sustainably. By signing this petition, you lend your voice to a cause that seeks to protect our community’s air quality and our families' health. We urge the local authorities and building companies to reconsider their strategies and commit to practices that will curb pollution without compromising the development plans. Let's ensure that we build a future where progress does not come at the expense of our environment and health.

Please sign this petition and help us make our community a safer, breathable place for everyone.
