Animal testing is a controversial issue that has been present in society for many years. Some would argue that it is beneficial to the animals and is an essential factor  in finding cures for diseases. Others would consider it a cruel and inhumane process that harms innocent animals. The Animal Welfare Act has placed many regulations and restrictions on animal research facilities (dealers, care and transportation, protection of certain animals, etc.). However,  there are many actions that still need to be taken in order to grant animals the full rights that they deserve. In 2008 there was an amendment to the AWA that stated only live dogs under the age of 6 months are excluded from importation WITH exceptions. Is it right to transfer a dog that is 7 months old, but not a dog that is 5 months old? If this age was shifted to an older age, this would help take another step further into giving innocent animals their full rights. Stopping animal testing on dogs and other animals, is an extremely difficult issue to take down, however taking a step to end the injustices that have deprived animals of their rights is what we are aiming to do.
